A temporary lecturer at St. Xavier’s College, Palayamkottai, a government-aided private college, has been arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act after he allegedly sexually harassed a girl student of the college.
The police said the temporary faculty member, Bright Howards, 34, had sexually harassed a 17-year-old girl student of the college recently. After the survivor lodged a complaint with the principal, an internal inquiry was conducted, which led to the dismissal of the accused.
The girl then filed a complaint with the police, following which Bright was arrested under the POCSO Act and remanded in judicial custody.
College authorities said they had already removed him from service after they received the complaint from the survivor and conducted the internal inquiry.
