Telangana HC grants Pawan Khera one-week protection from arrest amid allegations against Assam CM's wife regarding multiple passports.
The Telangana High Court on Friday (April 10, 2026) granted relief to Congress leader Pawan Khera by directing the Assam Police not to initiate any coercive action against him for one week in a criminal case registered over his allegations that Assam Chief Minister’s wife had three passports.
Justice K. Sujana of the High Court, who reserved orders on Thursday after hearing contentions of the counsels of both Pawan Khera and the Assam police, on Friday directed Mr. Khera to approach the local court concerned in Assam for regular bail after one week. The Congress leader knocked the doors of the Telangana High Court by filing a criminal petition seeking anticipatory bail in the case registered by the Gauhati Crime Branch over his charges that Assam Chief Minister’s wife had three different passports.
While the Gauhati High Court Advocate General Devajit Saikia contended that the petition was not maintainable on the point of High Court’s territorial jurisdiction since the case was registered in Assam, Supreme Court senior counsel Abhishek Singhvi argued Mr. Khera’s wife lived in Hyderabad and hence he had right to move the High Court.
