Supreme Court confirms interim bail for journalist Mahesh Langa in a money laundering case linked to GST fraud allegations.
The Supreme Court of India on Friday (April 10, 2026) confirmed or regularised the interim bail granted to journalist Mahesh Langa in a money laundering case linked to accusations of fraud against him.
A Bench headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant said the confirmation of the interim bail granted on December 15 last year should not be viewed as a comment on the merits of the case.
The interim bail confirmation order was passed on the basis of an oral submission made by Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the respondent Gujarat government and the Directorate of Enforcement (ED), that there has been developments in the trial. The law officer did not object to the regularisation of the interim bail owing to the “changed circumstances” and without any expression of views on the merits of the case.
In December, while granting the interim bail, the top court had directed the Special Court to hear the case on a day-to-day basis for considering of charge and for recording the statements of witnesses. The top court had directed Mr. Langa and the ED to cooperate with the trial and not take any adjournments.
The Gujarat Police had registered FIRs in Rajkot and Ahmedabad on the basis of complaints filed by Superintendents of Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST), Anti Evasion Section. The allegations in the two cases refer to using fraudulent means to obtain GST registration to receive and transfer bogus Input Tax Credit.
