NCAHP mandates implementation of a new curriculum for 17 allied health courses starting in the 2026-27 academic year.
National Commission for Allied Healthcare Professions (NCAHP) Chairperson Yagna Unmesh Shukla said it is mandatory for healthcare institutions to implement the curriculum, prescribed by the commission, for 17 allied health courses from 2026-27 academic year.
Speaking at the inauguration of Mangalore Physiocon, a physiotherapy conference organised by South Canara Physiotherapy Teachers’ Association in Mangaluru on April 10, Ms. Shukla said the NCAHP has released curriculum for 17 courses, namely Occupational Therapy, Respiratory Technology, Medical Physics and Nuclear Medicine Technology. It is mandatory for institutions to implement the curriculum from the 2026-27 academic year.
Ms. Shukla said the NCAHP will shortly notify minimum standards for institutions that are offering the allied health courses. The Commission was coming out with big reforms, and it was the responsibility of State Governments to implemented those reforms. NCAHP was tirelessly working on research promotion, innovation adoption and equitable access to rehabilitation services, she said.
Physiotherapy, she said, was in the frontline to reduce hospital stay, preventing complications, and helping patients to reclaim their lives. Future of physiotherapy was being reshaped by ground-breaking innovation. Quality care is now accessible in the remotest areas. New technology is helping physiotherapist deliver evidence-based efficient patient centric care.
Karnataka’s Health and Family Welfare Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao said with the rise in non-communicable diseases and with rising aging population, there is a rise in demand for good quality physiotherapists. “There is great scope for physiotherapy. Those who practice physiotherapy will have a stable career. The government of Karnataka is committed to make the course more effective and useful to everybody,” he said.
Minister for Medical Education Sharan Prakash Patil also addressed the gathering.
