TVK leader Sengottaiyan criticizes Palaniswami for misunderstanding public sentiment, asserting strong voter support in upcoming elections.
Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief coordinator K.A. Sengottaiyan on Thursday (April 10, 2026) criticised AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami, accusing him of failing to understand public sentiment and of levelling “baseless” allegations against him.
Campaigning in the Varapalayam, Anjanur, and Vemandampalayam areas in the Gobichettipalayam Assembly constituency, Mr. Sengottaiyan said the “people’s power” was firmly behind him and expressed confidence that voters would elect him on the ‘whistle’ symbol.
Responding to remarks labelling him a “traitor”, Mr. Sengottaiyan questioned how relinquishing key posts in the interest of party unity could be construed as a betrayal. He also rejected claims that he would lose his deposit in the constituency. “Mr. Palaniswami does not understand the mindset of the people,” he said, asserting that voters were prepared to back him and ensure his victory.
The former Minister alleged that Mr. Palaniswami had backed actor Vijay with the expectation of becoming Chief Minister and amassing significant wealth. He said his opposition to such moves had led to hostility against him and added that “those who have faced repeated electoral defeats are now criticising” him.
Referring to Mr. Palaniswami’s recent visit to Gobichettipalayam, Mr. Sengottaiyan said he had been labelled a “traitor” and questioned the charge. “Is relinquishing the Chief Minister’s post and the general secretary position for the sake of unity a betrayal?” he asked. He reiterated that the electorate was firmly behind him.
