Shivamogga's II PU results show a remarkable pass percentage increase to 87.62%, despite dropping to 14th place in Karnataka.
Shivamogga district has secured 14th place in Karnataka by registering 87.62% pass percentage in the II PU examinations. The results were announced on April 9.
Though the district has dropped down from the seventh place it secured in 2025, the pass percentage has improved. In 2025, the pass percentage was 79.91%.
Addressing a press conference in Shivamogga on April 10, Shivamogga Zilla Panchayat CEO N. Hemanth stated that of the total 17,532 fresh candidates who appeared for the examination, 15,361 cleared it. The pass percentage among girls is 93% and that for boys is 81%. As many as 4,622 students cleared the exams with distinction, 8,308 secured first class scores, 1,841 scored second class marks, and 639 passed.
Listing the reasons for the improvement in the results, Mr. Hemanth said that this year, the preparatory examinations were statewide with common question papers. The lecturers were told to evaluate them and guide the students to improve their results. “Earlier, preparatory exams were conducted at the district level. The system adopted this year contributed to the improvement in results," he said.
Answering a question, Mr. Hemanth admitted that preparing the students with the sole purpose of reproducing perfect answers to secure a good score would not be good in the long-run. The students should be made to understand the subject and concepts, along with scoring well in the final examination, he stated.
As many as 17 colleges in the district registered 100% results. They include the Government PU College at Antaragange in Bhadravati, Govt PU College at Megaravalli in Tirthahalli taluk, and the Government PU College at Basavani in Tirthahalli taluk.
