South films are doing well because they are good: Rajkummar Rao at India Today Conclave East 2022

Rajkummar Rao spoke about the rise of South cinema at India Today Conclave East 2022 on Day 2. The actor further said that no one knows the formula for a hit film.

Talk of performers in the entertainment space and you surely are going to mention Rajkummar Rao. The actor has shattered stereotypes through his breakthrough performances. He rounded up Day 2 of India Today Conclave East 2022 by sharing his opinion on a session titled The Rule Breakers: Content, Craft and Box Office Success. Rajkummar said that there's no set formula for a hit film, apart from just good content. So, why are South films working? Well, Rajkummar believes it is because they are good.

On the India Today Conclave East 2022 stage, Rajkummar Rao spoke about his struggling days, box-office successes and being part of films that would be remembered even 50 years later. The actor, who will be seen in HIT - The First Case soon, was asked to comment about what makes South movies work. After all, we've seen the likes of Pushpa, KGF and RRR shattering all records at the box office. Well, Rajkummar believes they work because they are good. He said, "No one knows the formula of a hit film, you have to keep trying and then leave it to destiny. I haven't really thought about why South films are doing well. Maybe because they are good films, the hard work shows. But I believe cinema goes through phases. At one time, we were shooting songs in Switzerland, then we started telling small-town stories, and now it is time for larger-than-life cinema that the South offers. But, as an actor, I rather do films I can be proud of, not because something is working at the moment. As long as my producers don't lose money, I can keep telling stories."
