
Snapchat Android users surpass the number of iOS users for the first time

Snapchat, for the time, recorded more Android users as compared to iOS users in the first quarter of 2021. Snapchat reached 280 million daily active users (DAU)s which is an increase of 22 per cent in a year “For the first time, the majority of our DAUs for the quarter were on the Android version of our application,” Snap, the parent company of Snapchat noted. Snapchat defines a Daily Active User, or DAU, as a registered Snapchat user who opens the Snapchat application at least once during a defined 24-hour period. The revenue increased 66 per cent to $770 million and the average revenue per user increased 36 per cent to $2.74. The Verge cited Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel calling the moment Android users overtook iOS users a critical milestone that reflects the long-term value of the investment made to rebuild Snapchat’s Android application. Spiegel was referring to the final version of the app in 2019, which made it more functional and accessible to global users.Back in 2018 and early 2019, Snapchat had introduced redesigns that did not focus much on Android. The platform then received criticism even from celebrities like Kylie Jenner from Keeping up with the Kardashians fame when she tweeted she was not keen on opening the Snapchat app.
