SC to hear plea challenging offline CBSE, CISCE, NIOS and state board exams on Feb 21

Supreme Court will hear the plea challenging offline CBSE, CISCE, NIOS and state board exams on February 21.

A petition has been submitted to Supreme Court on behalf of students of CBSE, CISCE and NIOS boards against the board exams for Classes 10 and 12 being held offline. Supreme Court will hear the petition on February 21.

Students from 15 states filed applications and demanded to be conducted through alternative evaluation method instead of offline examination.

Thousands of students from 15 states have signed Google forms regarding their protest against the offline board exams in view of the short span being given to prepare for the Term 2 board exams and the delay in schools completing syllabus alongside Covid-19 pressures.

Anubha Shrivastava Sahai, an advocate and child rights activist, filed the petition along with the Student Union of Odisha-NYCS as the second petitioner.

The petitions have selected two students from each of the states and after speaking to them on phone, their names have been added to the petition to Supreme Court against the offline conduction of the board exams.

The petition calls for alternate methods of assessing students of Classes 10, 11 and 12 in CBSE, CISCE, NIOS and state boards instead of holding offline board exams. It also asks for holding an improvement exam for those who are dissatisfied with the internal assessment exams.

The plea asks SC to form a committee to decide on an alternate formula for assessment, including those with compartmental or retest, and declare the result within a time limit and deadline.
