The Indian rupee slumped 10 paise to 74.20 against the U.S. dollar in opening trade on Tuesday as rising crude oil prices weighed on investor sentiment. At the interbank foreign exchange, the rupee opened lower at 74.18 against the dollar, then fell further to 74.20, registering a fall of 10 paise over its previous close. On Monday, the rupee had settled at 74.10 against the U.S. dollar.The election authorities are gearing up for the counting of votes cast in the simultaneous elections to Lok Sabha and Assembly seats in Andhra Pradesh, scheduled to be held on June 4. The Collectors and Election Officers of Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli and Alluri Sitharama Raju (ASR) districts said on May 23 (Thursday) that their teams were ready for the counting of votes.
