Despite the pre-release fervour and (some) positive reviews, Ranveer Singh’s 83 had a dismal opening at the box office and received lesser footfall than Shah Rukh Khan’s 2018 dud, Zero. So, what went wrong with the sports drama? Read on.

Ranveer Singh’s 83 was one of the most-awaited films of 2021. Recreating the most glorious chapter of Indian cricket - the 1983 World Cup win - 83 hit the cinemas on December 24, 2021. Excitement ran high as the film received stellar reviews from celebrities and critics praised Ranveer’s performance as the cricketing legend, Kapil Dev. However, none of this translated into box office numbers. The film has turned out to be a bigger theatrical debacle than Shah Rukh Khan’s 2018 dud, Zero. Yes, even keeping the Covid-era in mind, 83’s box office numbers have shocked many. Trade experts told IndiaToday.in what went wrong with the sports drama. #83TheFilm [Week 2] Fri 4.36 cr, Sat 7.73 cr, Sun 7.31 cr, Mon 2.01 cr. Total: 93.28 cr. #India biz.
