With the new integrated bus terminal in Panjapur in the city expected to become operational soon, the Tiruchi City Police have stepped up vigil on the promises.
Round-the-clock vigil is being maintained by police teams on the 40-acre premises, located off the busy Tiruchi-Madurai national highway.
Pickets have been posted at the three statues at the terminal and nearby places. The E. Pudur police have been asked to ensure two-wheeler patrolling as it comes under their jurisdiction, the sources said.
An outpost is expected to be put up at the new terminal soon for traffic regulation, to curb crimes and maintain order. The movement of travellers and buses are expected to become heavy once the new terminal becomes fully operational.
Sources said the police have already forwarded a proposal, listing the manpower requirements, for establishing a new police station near the new bus terminal.
Headed by the Commissioner of Police in the rank of Inspector General of Police, the Tiruchi City Police has under its jurisdiction 14 stations besides traffic, armed reserve, and Prohibition and Enforcement and other units.
