Police in Puttaparthi host a cycle rally to promote women's empowerment ahead of International Women’s Day.
A bicycle rally was organised here on Sunday as part of the run up to International Women’s Day. Led by the district police, the rally was flagged off at the RTC Bus Stand and concluded at Ganesh Circle, witnessing enthusiastic participation from officials, students, women and members of the public from across the district headquarters.
Sri Sathya Sai District Collector A. Shyam Prasad, Superintendent of Police S. Satish Kumar and Additional SP Ankita Surana joined the rally along with senior officials from the revenue, medical and health and police departments.
Addressing the gathering, the Collector said cycling contributes to both physical fitness and mental well-being. He noted that access to bicycles has enabled many girls, particularly in rural areas, to continue their education with greater mobility and confidence. He emphasised that women play a crucial role in the progress of families and the overall development of society.
Mr. Satish Kumar said ensuring the safety and dignity of women is a shared social responsibility and not confined to the police or the government alone. Referring to this year’s theme ‘Give to Gain’, he said empowering women ultimately leads to a stronger and more inclusive society. He added that week long awareness programmes focusing on women’s safety, legal rights and empowerment would be conducted across the district.
