Thousands of devotees celebrate the Maasi car festival at Sri Kasi Viswanathar temple in Tenkasi with vibrant processions and music.
Thousands of devotees thronged the Maasi car festival of Sri Kasi Viswanathar temple in Tenkasi on Sunday.
The main deity Sri Kasi Viswanathar was placed in a decorated car and the procession began to the accompaniment of traditional Panchavaadhyam music. The temple car was taken around the four mada streets amid devotional fervour. Then, Goddess Ulagamman was also placed in the same car, which again went around the four mada streets.
Traditionally, Lord Kasi Viswanathar and Goddess Ulagamman are taken in two separate temple cars. However, the temple car of the goddess has been in a damaged condition for the past few years. Hence, the procession was conducted using the same car twice. Devotees have sought immediate steps to repair the temple car of the goddess.
Tenkasi police have made enhanced security arrangements for the car festival.
