
PM inaugurates redeveloped Tiruvarur, Manapparai railway stations

PM Modi inaugurates redeveloped Tiruvarur and Manapparai railway stations, enhancing amenities and infrastructure under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.
The redeveloped Tiruvarur and Manapparai railway stations, which were given a complete makeover under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS), were inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi through video conferencing from Madurai on Sunday. Local ceremonial functions were organised at the two stations in which elected representatives, senior railway officers, and the general public participated.
The Tiruvarur Railway Junction, falling under the Tiruchi Railway Division, has been redeveloped at a cost of ₹15.03 crore. A new entrance arch, improved approach road with dedicated pedestrian pathways, enhanced station facade with separate arrival and departure porches, revamped circulating area with landscaped greenery, new portico, renovated air-conditioned waiting hall, upgraded platform shelters, and train and coach information display boards are among the key enhancements at the station. The station has been made fully accessible with reserved parking for persons with disabilities, ramps for barrier-free access, low-level booking counters, and accessible toilets and drinking water facilities.
A commemorative plaque was unveiled at the Tiruvarur station by Nagapattinam MP V. Selvaraj. S.C. Jain, Additional Member (Land & Amenities), Railway Board; Ganesh, Principal Chief Electrical Engineer, Southern Railway; Prem Ranjan Kumar, Chief Engineer (Track Procurement); Balak Ram Negi, Divisional Railway Manager, Tiruchi, were present.
Manapparai, an NSG-5 category railway station located in Tiruchi district and along the Tiruchi-Madurai section, has undergone comprehensive transformation with enhanced amenities and improved infrastructure. The station’s front elevation has been aesthetically upgraded with an entrance arch and facade. A canopy covering an area of 111.57 square metres and a compound wall have been completed strengthening passenger convenience and security.
The circulating area and approach roads had been developed improving vehicular movement and passenger access. Two lifts have been installed on platforms 1 and 2 ensuring accessibility for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and passengers with luggage.
A new waiting hall has been constructed to provide improved comfort and seating capacity. To enhance internal circulation and drainage efficiency, a new pathway cum drainage system has been developed. Parking infrastructure has been substantially augmented with a covered car parking facility accommodating 13 vehicles and a large covered bike parking area for 252 two-wheelers.
