Oppo Watch Free launched in India with SpO2 sensor, waterproof design
India Today
Oppo Watch Free is the latest smart band to have launched in India. It takes big cues from the full-fledged Oppo Watch that arrived in 2020 but is suitable for tracking fitness more than giving a comprehensive smartwatch experience.
Oppo Watch Free is the company’s latest wearable to shake up the market a bit. It is essentially a fitness band rather than a smartwatch, but looks may deceive you. It seems like the younger brother of the Oppo Watch, which the company launched two years back for Rs 14,999. The Oppo Watch Free is not only much cheaper, it also misses out on things like Android support. But being a fitness band, it gives you functions such as heart-rate monitoring, blood oxygen level monitoring, sleep tracking, smart pairing with Oppo phones.
Fitness and health related features are what you will find on other smart bands, but Oppo took a page out of Apple’s playbook and gave the Watch Free some interesting features. For instance, the fitness band will divert all the notifications from the phone, even if they are not enabled in the settings, to its screen when you play games on an Oppo phone. That is a neat trick to allow an uninterrupted gaming experience. The Watch Free also supports the iPhone but the functionality is limited.
The Oppo Watch Free costs Rs 5,999 and you can buy it from Flipkart and Oppo’s online store, but the release date is not clear right now.
The Oppo Watch Free is a fitness band in the guise of a smartwatch, but it, in no way, looks like a band. It has a 1.64-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 280x456 pixels and a pixel density of 326ppi. It has a 230mAh battery, which, according to the company, can offer 14 days of runtime in light battery life mode.
The Oppo Watch Free can monitor your heart rate, blood oxygen level, daily sleep, daily activity, and sedentary lifestyle. If you are a snorer, the watch will tell you that, as well. With over 100 sports modes, including cricket, badminton, skiing, kayaking, volleyball, rowing, swimming, among others. The band can automatically detect a few activities such as walking, running, rowing, and elliptical.
The Oppo Watch Free uses Bluetooth 5.0 for connection and you get 5ATM water resistance, as well. You get more than 100 watch-faces on the device. The notification diversion works between the Oppo Watch Free and Find X series and Reno 6 series phones right now, but the company is expected to expand support to other phones soon. It measures 46x29.7x10.6mm and weighs 32.6 grams.
