Nusrat Jahan was a speaker at India Today Conclave East 2022 Day 1, held in Kolkata. The actress spoke about being questioned for not coming to work during her eighth month of pregnancy.

Bengali actress and Trinamool Congress MP Nusrat Jahan has created her own niche in the world of cinema and politics. On Day 1 of India Today Conclave East 2022, Nusrat Jahan spoke about politics, following trends on social media and films. During her session titled The Intimate Conversation: What it Means to Unfollow the Script in Politics, Nusrat Jahan spoke about getting trolled on social media and managing her personal and professional life. She also recalled the time she was trolled for remaining absent from work when she was eight months pregnant.

Nusrat Jahan, at India Today Conclave East 2022, spoke about getting trolled on social media and how she deals with them. The actress also revealed that during her eighth month of pregnancy, she was asked about her absence from work.

Speaking at the Conclave, Nusrat said, "I am not saying it's easy. I would be lying if I were saying it's easy. You wake up one day and see some headline where someone is trolling you. Oh troll ho gayi hu, woh kya hota hain? Accha fatwa aaraha hain? Many said that she was not to be found. I have been sitting and signing maternity leaves for people. Women are bound and entitled to get that. But in my case, people suddenly stood up and said "Arre aap toh aate hi nahi." (You do not come only). My God, I am not a woman? I am not a woman who has conceived? Are you all looking at me from that perspective? Aye ki tomake dekha jaache na? (what happened, we cannot see you?)."

She continued, "So I told them, I am eight months pregnant, and I cannot travel. You cannot question amake dekha jacche na keno (why I cannot be seen). Then someone will say I am not doing this and that. So I have decided I am not sitting with a list of facts and figures here to show it to people as faceless as them. They are coming up with accusations which are allegedly right or wrong. They cannot decide that. I know what I am doing." She further said that she is managing a fussy baby who is growing up, shooting and managing time to travel.

For the uninitiated, Nusrat Jahan welcomed her first baby, Yishaan J. Dasgupta, in August 2021.
