
Number of Indians studying in US drops by nearly 13%: Open Doors Report 2021

The number of Indian students studying in the United States has dropped by nearly 13% according to the Open Doors Report 2021.
According to an annual report released by the Institute of International Education, the number of Indian students studying in the United States has decreased by nearly 13 per cent in 2020-21 as compared to the previous academic year. This drop has been attributed to the Covid-19 pandemic by United States Officials. The report was released on Monday. However, according to the 2021 Open Doors Report, Indian students still constitute the second-largest group of international students in the US, second to the students from China. The 2021 Open Doors Report also states that the US remains a 'top destination' for international students.
At a press conference held at the Fulbright House, senior officials of the US Embassy in New Delhi on Monday shared some of the details from the report at a press conference informing reporters that, "over 62,000 student visas were issued this summer alone, more than in any previous year".
