Former Supreme Court judge, Kannada novelist, and Hindustani vocalist to receive prestigious Nadoja Award from Kannada University.
Three renowned personalities from different fields, the former Supreme Court judge Shivaraj V. Patil, Kannada novelist Kum. Veerabhadrappa and Hindustani vocalist M. Venkatesh Kumar, have been selected for the prestigious Nadoja Award presented by Kannada University.
Addressing a media conference at the university in Hampi on Wednesday, Vice-Chancellor D.V. Paramashivamurthy said that Governor and Chancellor Thaawarchand Gehlot will present the award to the dignitaries during the 33rd convocation of the university scheduled to be held at Navaranga open-air theatre on the university campus Vidyaranya on Friday.
“A recommendation was made to honour Kum. Veerabhadrappa, a native of Kottur in Vijayanagara district, with the award last year itself. It has been approved this year. Mr. Shivaraj Patil is from Raichur and Pandit Venkatesh Kumar is originally from Sandur in Ballari district. All the three have made significant contributions to their respective fields,” Prof. Paramashivamurthy said.
With these three, the number of Nadoja award winners will go up to 101. The award was not given away at all in 2024.
“Mr. Gehlot will present the award. Higher Education Minister and Pro-Chancellor of the university M.C. Sudhakar will present D.Lit and Ph.D degrees. The former Vice-Chancellor of Tumkur University A.H. Rajasab will deliver the convocation address,” Prof. Paramashivamurthy said.
As per information he shared, seven candidates will get D.Lit and 198 candidates will get Ph.D degrees during the convocation.
“A Devadasi’s son is among the 198 candidates who will receive their Ph.D degrees. He will get the award for his study on the Devadasi system. Besides, four persons with disabilities will also get their Ph.D degrees. Most of the research students are from downtrodden communities in rural areas who aspired for higher education. They have realised their dream by successfully completing their research. Their research topics reflect the conditions of these deprived communities,” the Vice-Chancellor said.
