Mobile phones seized from Bengaluru's Parappana Agrahara jail highlight ongoing security lapses despite recent enhancements.
Authorities at the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison have registered a case after two mobile phones and SIM cards were allegedly found in possession of inmates in Bengaluru.
According to the complaint filed by Karna B. Kshatri, Superintendent (in-charge) of the prison, the incident came to light on March 6, 2026, between 1.10 p.m. and 1.35 p.m. during a check conducted in Barrack No. 7.
During inspection, prison staff noticed suspicious movement by an undertrial prisoner identified as Lohithashwa, who was lodged in connection with a case registered in 2025. Upon questioning, officials allegedly found a mobile phone hidden inside the electric control room area between cells. Lohithashwa told the officials that he had borrowed the phone from another inmate identified as Karthik.
