Join a three-day workshop at Kuvempu University on Kannada language data collection and linguistic annotation, enhancing AI skills.
A three-day capacity-building workshop on Kannada language data collection and linguistic annotation, conducted by research scientists of AU-KBC Research Centre of Anna University in Chennai, began at Shankaraghatta, Kuvempu University campus on Monday.
R. Vijay Sundar Ram, senior research engineer at AU-KBC Centre, in his preliminary remarks on the workshop, stated that in the Artificial Intelligence-driven economy, data is the oil. “Nowadays, we hardly use search engines, as we expect responses to be precise and in a summarised format. AI tools work effectively based on the database we feed. The Large Language Models (LLMs) work because of the data created over the several years," he said.

Mr. Sundar Ram said a sufficient number of individuals proficient in the language are needed to supply data to the LLM. We are happy to conduct a capacity-building workshop for students of Kuvempu University. The three-day workshop will help students understand how LLMs work and how to make them effectively," he added.
Kuvempu University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sharath Anantharmurthy, who inaugurated the workshop, said a capacity-building workshop would help students find new job opportunities. “Earlier, we were of the view that students of languages can end up becoming teachers. However, now, students have opportunities in the software industry and can become knowledge developers," he said.
Prof. M. Dattatreya, chairperson of the Department of English; Meti Mallikarjun, professor of linguistics; and others were present. Around 60 students studying MA in English and research scholars are attending the workshop.
