In today's dose of absolutely bizarre content on the internet, we have a story with us that will totally baffle you. So, a mayor of a small fishing village, Oaxaca in Mexico, married an alligator dressed as a bride. Yes, you read that right. He even gave his unconventional bride a kiss and the video of the same has gone viral online.
San Pedro Huamelula mayor Victor Hugo Sosa married a seven-year-old alligator on Thursday in an age-old ritual. He even kissed the reptile whose mouth was tied shut. The tradition dates back centuries to pre-Hispanic times among Oaxaca state's Chontal and Huave indigenous communities, like a prayer pleading for nature's bounty."We ask nature for enough rain, for enough food, that we have fish in the river," said Sosa.
As per Reuters, the ritual also involves dressing up the alligator in a white wedding dress plus other colourful garments. The reptile, referred to as a little princess, is believed to be a deity representing mother earth, and her marriage to the mayor symbolises the joining of humans with the divine.
The wedding was carried out with much gusto. Locals carried the alligator bride in their arms as trumpets and drums blared in the background in a festive manner.
