Mercedes-Benz C-Class Long wheelbase unveiled
India Today
Unveiled at the 2021 Shanghai motor show, the C-Class LWB is longer and has more space on the inside than the current generation of the C-Class in India. Find out what sets it apart.
Mercedes-Benz recently unveiled the new long wheelbase version of the C-Class for the Chinese market at the 2021 Shanghai Motor Show. As is usually the case with this particular genre of LWB version, this one is 131mm longer than the standard C-Class that is presently on sale in India. It also gets a longer wheelbase which should liberate more space on the inside. While there are still no confirmations as to whether this particular C-Class is earmarked for India, the existence of the E-Class LWB does bode well for the chances of it coming to sub-continent. Physically the C-Class LWB is 4,882mm in length, making it 131mm longer than the standard C-Class overall, while the wheelbase is longer by 89mm. That aside both cars are almost identical, unless you look at them in profile where the elongated rear door and L-badging on the C-pillar visually sets apart the LWB. The LWB will also get a slightly differentiated grille design, as well as a hood ornament for top spec models. From the cockpit, and the passenger’s seat you’d be hard-pressed to find anything that set the LWB apart from the standard car, and its only when you look at the second row that you realize that there is more space, an improved seat design and a wider arm rest. Since this is a model that will cater to the chauffer driven among us, the LWB gets better sound damping and revised suspension that likely focuses on passenger comfort.
