Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was attacked by a man during a function in his hometown Bakhtiyarpur on Sunday. The CM escaped unharmed from the attack and the man was detained by the police.
The incident was caught on camera. The video shows a man taking rapid steps towards the stage as he tries to hit the chief minister. However, he was immediately dragged away by the CM's security personnel.
The accused has been identified as Shankar alias Chhotu, 25, a resident of Mohammadpur area in Bakhtiyarpur. He runs a small jewellery shop in the area.
It is not known yet why the man attacked the chief minister.
The police have taken the man away for questioning. Further investigation is underway.
Condemning the attack on Nitish Kumar, BJP spokesperson Arvind Kumar Singh demanded strict action against the accused. Along with this, he also said that that all the officers and security personnel who were in the security of the chief minister should undergo investigation.
Opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal also condemned the attack, saying "any dissatisfaction or anger should be expressed only through democratic means".

The government told the Bombay High Court that the situation remains dynamic due to international developments, and emphasised that it may not be appropriate to deliberate such matters within court proceedings. He assured the bench that the government is taking all necessary remedial measures to ensure that global disruptions do not adversely impact domestic supply of LPG.

In its findings, the court underscored that "mere irregularity or lapses cannot be converted into offences," stressing that the essential ingredient of criminal intent, mens rea, was missing. It noted that there was no evidence of dishonest or fraudulent misappropriation of property entrusted to public servants, nor any material to suggest forgery or deliberate wrongdoing.
