On March 14, Pushpa stood on Platform 1, unaware of what was about to unfold. As a local train approached, her husband, Raju Gupta, allegedly pushed her onto the tracks. The impact was immediate and fatal. Commuters froze, and the platform descended into chaos as the train screeched to a halt.
Within moments, the man who had arrived with her vanished into the crowd.
The sequence of events leading up to the incident paints a disturbing picture. Pushpa had travelled from Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria to Mumbai with her brother, Kamlesh Kumar Gupta, and her child.
That same day, a dispute broke out between her and her husband. The argument escalated to the point that the couple went to Mulund police station. It was an attempt, perhaps, to seek intervention, to calm a situation that had gone too far.
After leaving the station, Kamlesh Kumar briefly returned home to retrieve a forgotten wallet. In that short window, events took a tragic turn.
The police have arrested three accused allegedly involved in the incident. They are also trying to trace the source of the money and suspect that it is linked to a hawala channel.
In a sharp and sarcastic remark, he said that in Hyderabad, "only two are enjoying public governance, thieves and mosquitoes," underscoring his criticism of what he termed as administrative apathy. He also suggested that several localities be renamed after mosquitoes.
