Major Apple supplier BOE may lose millions of iPhone 14 orders, suggests report
India Today
As per the latest report, Apple hasn’t yet approved Chinese display maker Beijing Oriental Electronics (BOE)’s deal to make the display for iPhone 14, which is expected to launch in September this year.
According to a South Korean publication, The Elec, Apple hasn’t yet approved Chinese display maker Beijing Oriental Electronics (BOE)’s offer to make the display for iPhone 14. Since the new iPhones are expected to launch in September, Apple would have approved the deal if it was convinced without wasting a minute.
The report suggests that if Apple decides not to go ahead with the deal, BOE will lose nearly 30 million OLED screens for the 2022 iPhones, expected to be called iPhone 14. The reason behind the tech giant’s disapproval of giving the deal to BOE is that the supplier unilaterally changed the design of the circuit width of the iPhone 13's OLED panels earlier this year in order to increase the yield rate. This forced the tech giant to halt the production of the panels.
Apple halted the production of the iPhone 13's OLED panels by BOE in February. The South Korean publication stated that the display maker even sent a C-level executive along with a few employees to Apple's HQ to explain the reason behind making design changes unilaterally.
The display maker, BOE, reportedly also asked the Cupertino-based tech giant to approve the production of OLED panels for the iPhone 14, but Apple hasn’t yet responded to the company. The report stated that the display manufacturer "didn't receive a clear response from Apple”.
Apple reportedly wants to reduce its dependence on Samsung Display and LG Display for developing iPhone panels and diversify its suppliers. But that may not happen this time at least. The 30 million orders that Apple was expected to offer BOE will most likely now go to Samsung Display and LG Display since the company has asked the Chinese supplier to halt production.
As per reports, the iPhone 14 series will go official in September. Although the tech giant hasn't revealed any details about the upcoming flagship iPhones, the latest report suggests that the iPhone 14 series will go official in the second week of September. Under the series, Apple is expected to launch four models - the iPhone 14, the iPhone 14 Max, the iPhone 14 Pro, and the iPhone 14 Pro Max.
