A stampede-like situation at the Maha Kumbh in the early hours of Wednesday (January 29, 2025) ahead of the ‘Amrit Snan’ on Mauni Amavasya, led to several casualties.
The Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday (January 29) called for the Army to be given administration and management of the Maha Kumbh.

“In order to re-instil faith in the system among the saint community and devotees who have come to the Maha Kumbh, it is necessary that the administration and management of the Maha Kumbh should be immediately handed over to the Army instead of the U.P. government and administration,” said Mr. Yadav.
The SP president hit out at the U.P. government adding claims of ‘world-class system’ has been exposed and those spreading propaganda should take moral responsibility for the people killed. “Now that the truth behind the claims of ‘world-class system’ has been exposed, those who were making these claims and spreading false propaganda should take moral responsibility for the people killed in this accident and resign from their posts,” added the SP leader.
Around 100 million pilgrims are expected to gather at the Sangam Ghats today on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya on Wednesday.
