Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) in its Budget for 2026-27 proposed three initiatives for women.
Presenting the Budget, the Administrator of the MCC H. V. Darshan said that ‘Sakhi’ toilets for women will be built at five places in the city. The toilets will be built keeping the hygiene and safety aspects of women in mind. They will be built in high footfall areas such as public hospitals, markets and bus stands. Some of the public toilets will also be upgraded as modern ones. The MCC has reserved ₹1 crore for the same, he said.
Mr. Darshan said that ‘Madilu shishu palana kendras’ (Madilu child care centres) will be opened at the zonal offices of MCC at Surathkal and Kadri. The corporation has set aside ₹50 lakh for them. They will be built on the model of the ‘shishu palana kendras’ opened at the head office of the corporation at Lalbagh. The kendra at Lalbagh will also be upgraded. The centres are meant for taking care of the children of women working in the corporation.
The corporation has earmarked ₹30 lakh under the ‘Asare’ initiative. It will be given to such organisations as ₹15 lakh each as incentive for taking care, rehabilitating orphan girls, victims of atrocities and girls indulging in begging.
