The United States has issued a stark warning to its citizens in Iran, urging them to leave the country immediately and prepare for departure without relying on assistance from the US government, as unrest and travel disruptions persist across the nation.
The Virtual US Embassy in Iran told American nationals that growing security concerns, restrictions on communications and uncertain transport links have created conditions that could compromise safety.
Amid rising tensions and travel disruptions, diplomatic efforts between Tehran and Washington are also under the spotlight. US-Iran nuclear talks are set to begin at 10 am Oman time (11.30 pm IST), marking the first formal meeting in nearly nine months, officials say, a signal that both sides may be exploring diplomatic channels even as security risks mount.
“Leave Iran now. Have a plan for departing Iran that does not rely on US government help,” the advisory said, emphasising that people should organise their departure independently given limitations on official evacuation support.
Nationwide protests in Iran have triggered increased security measures, including road closures, disruptions to public transport, and ongoing internet blockages that hinder access to mobile, landline, and national online networks.
Airlines have continued to limit or cancel flights to and from the country, adding further uncertainty for travellers attempting to leave.

Egypt has emerged as a key back-channel mediator, establishing contact with Iran's IRGC and proposing a five-day pause in fighting to build momentum for a ceasefire, a move that appears to have nudged US President Donald Trump to drop his threat to strike Iran's power plants, The Wall Street Journal reported.
