The police said the accused, identified as Chidambararajan, 34, working in the college’s Chemistry lab, sexually harassed the student in the lab on February 6. The accused indulged in explicit sexual overtures towards her, they said.
The girl lodged a complaint with the Chidambaram All Women Police Station on Thursday (February 13, 2025). Sources said the Superintendent of Police S. Jeyakumar directed the Inspector of Police to take immediate action, following which Chidambararajan was arrested.
A case was registered against him under Section 75(2) (physical contact and advances involving unwelcome and explicit sexual overtures) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) read with Section 4 (penalty for harassment of women) of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act.
