Rising farmer deaths due to heat-stroke while guarding paddy in Telangana blamed on government delays in procurement.
The incidents of farmers’ deaths by suffering heat-stroke while guarding their paddy produce either at the harvesting platforms or at the market yards/procurement centres are on the rise across Telangana, with the latest casualty being Guguloth Kishan, 51, at Pochampally village in Pedda Vangara mandal.
Working president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) K.T. Rama Rao stated on Monday that the farmer had suffered a heat-stroke due to the delay in the disposal of his produce at the nearest procurement centre. He blamed the Congress government for such deaths and the delay in purchase of the produce from farmers.
Despite the denial of Rythu Bharosa imposing various restrictions, the farming community had borrowed money and toiled hard to raise crops and get a good yield. However, the delay in the purchase of their produce by the procurement centres is proving to be life-threatening to the farming community.
The delay in procurement was forcing the farmers to guard their produce in the scorching temperatures and untimely rains, the BRS leader said and suggested that the State government come to the rescue of such farmers’ families and speed up paddy procurement.
