Kia has confirmed that it will launch the all-electric EV6 in India. While the exact launch date is yet to be disclosed, the company has revealed that bookings will commence on May 26, 2022, followed by its launch soon after.
The Kia EV6 sports a futuristic design that is unlike anything we have on Indian roads. Although it might look like a large hatchback in pictures, the size of the Kia EV6 is rather substantial, comparable to mid-size SUVs like the Kia Sportage. It measures 4,695mm long, 1,890mm wide and 1,550mm tall and sits on a 2,900mm wheelbase.
Already on sale in multiple markets around the globe, the Kia EV6 is available with either a 58kWh battery pack or a 77.4kWh battery pack in both front wheel drive and all wheel drive formats. The base RWD Kia EV6 with the 58kWh battery has a WLTP certified range of around 378km. The RWD EV6 with a 77.4kWh battery can do up to 528km on a single charge (WLTP combined cycle). With 226bhp and 350Nm, it can sprint to 100kmph in 7.3 seconds and reach a maximum speed of 183kmph. The AWD EV6 with its dual motor setup and 77.4kWh battery has 321bhp on tap, and 605Nm of torque. It accelerates to 100kmph in just 5.2 seconds.
A 7kW home charger will recharge the EV6 from 10 to 100 per cent in 7 hours 20 minutes. Using a regular domestic three-pin plug, the EV6 will take 32 hours and 45 minutes to reach full from 10 per cent. A 50kW CD fast charger juice up the EV6 from 10 to 80 per cent in 1 hour and 13 minutes; 350kW ultra-fast chargers take just 18 minutes to recharge from 10 to 80 per cent. These figures are applicable for the 77.4kWh version. The one with the smaller 58kWh battery will have shorter charging times, obviously.
In the US, the Kia EV6 is priced at roughly Rs 31 to 42 lakh. With it being imported to India, expect the EV6 to carry a fairly hefty price tag upwards of Rs 60 lakh (ex-showroom).
