Kerala Police files rape case against dean of School of Drama in Thrissur, culprit absconding

Three months after the rape of a student, the accused, who is the Dean of School of Drama and Fine Arts in Thrissur, S Sunilkumar, has been charged by the police. Sunilkumar is absconding and has been suspended by Calicut university.
Almost three months after a first-year undergraduate student accused the Dean of School of Drama and Fine Arts in Thrissur, S Sunilkumar, of rape, the police have finally registered a case against him. Calicut University has also suspended him pending enquiry.
The student was allegedly sexually assaulted by Sunilkumar when she stayed at his residence during the pandemic. Sunilkumar was reportedly staying with his partner at his home and had made space for the girl.
However, when his partner was away, he made advances on the girl and sexually assaulted her on November 21, 2021. The student also alleged that he used to send her messages of sexual nature.
The dean also reportedly tried to isolate her from peers, saying that she was not mentally fit. Apparently, he also apologised to her and said that he would commit suicide if she revealed the truth to anyone. He also allegedly used to call her after getting drunk.
Thrissur West police said that a case has been registered against Sunilkumar under IPC section 376. The students who have been protesting on the Aranattukara campus since February 24 demanding Sunilkumar’s arrest are continuing the protest. Meanwhile, Sunilkumar is absconding.
The girl attempted suicide after struggling with the issue for a while. She has now filed a complaint against visiting faculty from Calicut University, Raja Warrier, for hitting her hand.
When she asked him why she was hit, he said that he was teaching the five senses and touch sensation. A case has been registered against him too.
