Kerala CPM party state conference begins in Kochi

The CPM party state conference began in Kochi on Tuesday, March 1. The four-day conference is being held after a break of 4 years. Veteran CPM leader VS Achuthanandan will not be attending the event.

The CPI (M) party state conference began in Kochi on Tuesday, March 1. Anathalavattam Anandan, the senior-most CPM state secretariat member, hoisted the party’s red flag at the Marine Drive ground.

Usually, V S Achuthanandan, the veteran CPM leader, hoists the flag. He did so in the last three party conferences held in 2012, 2015, and 2018. The four-day conference, held in Kochi after a gap of 3 years, will see politburo members Prakash Karat, Brinda Karat, S Ramachandran Pillai and G Ramakrishnan in attendance.

CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury, in his inaugural address, said that the BJP had infiltrated the major 'independent' investigation agencies in the country. He also said that this is a time we should collectively oppose communalist politics.

Meanwhile, CPM member MA Baby took a dig at the Muslim League while addressing the media during the conference. He said that the League should be ashamed for siding with the 'Hindutva' preaching Congress party .

The possibility of the Muslim League joining the LDF front will be discussed at the party conference. In the absence of VS Achuthanandan, who has always opposed this, the direction the discussion would take is unpredictable.
