Kerala CM urges unity amid conflict with Pakistan, highlighting state's economic growth and commitment to national defense.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Friday (May 9, 2025) urged citizens to stand united with the nation in the face of ongoing conflict with neighbouring Pakistan, asserting that “all Indians should join hands behind the country’s defence.”
Speaking in Kannur during the inaugural of a face-to-face dialogue under Ente Keralam programme, Mr. Vijayan said: “We always seek cordial relations with our neighbours. But Pakistan is treading a hostile path. However, our country has successfully countered its aggression.”
Expressing condolences to those who lost their lives in the conflict, the Chief Minister said a special Cabinet meeting would be held at 1 p.m. on Friday to decide Kerala’s course of action in support of national efforts.
Reaffirming the government’s developmental vision, Mr. Vijayan highlighted that Kerala’s Gross State Domestic Product had grown from ₹5.6 lakh crore to ₹13.11 lakh crore, and said the State had recorded the lowest poverty rate in the country.
“The unity and solidarity of the people made this achievement possible,” he said, claiming that the government had delivered on its manifesto promises and was committed to making the impossible possible.
The Ente Keralam event is being held as part of the LDF government’s annual outreach programme.

After being repeatedly disrupted for three consecutive days over issues ranging from the Governor’s address and alleged disrespect to the national anthem to demands for the resignation of the Excise Minister, among others, normalcy finally returned to the Legislative Council on Friday, with proceedings commencing.
