Kanpur woman gang raped by husband and his friends over dowry

The woman said her husband brought three of his friends and gang raped her after her family could not meet his demand of Rs 2 lakh and a car in dowry.
A woman was allegedly gang-raped by her husband and his friends after her family failed to fulfil his dowry demand. The incident took place in Kanpur’s Chakeri area.
The woman’s family on Wednesday registered a complaint against her husband and his friends for harassment and rape at the Chakeri police station.
The woman told the police that she got married on March 6, 2020, and ever since then, her husband and sister-in-law demanded Rs 2 lakh and a car in dowry. When their demands were not met, she was locked up in a room.
Further, she said that her husband brought three of his friends one day and the four of them gang raped her. She told the police that her husband also tried to set her on fire by pouring petrol when she protested.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mrigank Pathak said a case has been registered against the accused involved for assault and action will be taken against them after an investigation.
