Kamal Haasan says 'watched Sholay with only subtitles' when asked about South dominance

Kamal Haasan's latest release, Vikram, has taken over the worldwide box office. In a recent media interaction, he spoke about how he doesn't look at South movies doing well as 'dominance' but as a win for Indian cinema.

Kamal Haasan's latest film, Vikram, also starring Vijay Sethupathi and Fahadh Faasil, is all that cine-goers are talking about right now. Despite stiff competition from Akshay Kumar's Samrat Prithviraj and Adivi Sesh's Major, Vikram is doing great business at the worldwide box office. Vikram's success follows that of Pushpa: The RIse, RRR and KGF Chapter 2, and is clearly indicating a South cinema dominance. But Haasan doesn't think it is dominance, but a win for Indian cinema.

Kamal Haasan, while participating in a recent press meet for his movie Vikram's success, spoke about how, when he was promoting the film in North India, he was asked about the South’s dominance in movies, and more significantly, in a particular 'tone'.

Kamal Haasan said, "When I went to North India, I was asked in a certain tone about the South cinema’s dominance. I simply said that for the sun, there is uthrayanam (north) and dakshinayanam (south)." Talking about the roaring success of films like Pushpa, RRR, KGF 2 and now Vikram, he added, "According to me, an Indian movie has succeeded." He also cited examples of iconic Hindi films that have garnered mass popularity across India, and said, "That’s how we watched Sholay and Aradhana with only subtitles and music. So, it keeps happening."

The actor-turned-politician also said that he has not taken breaks from movies, despite doing active politics. In fact, he said that he’s ready to work with Rajinikanth, and it the decision would be the director's and Rajinikanth's.

Interestingly, Kamal Haasan also hinted that he and actor Vijay are in talks regarding a project, but things will only pan out once the time is appropriate. Kamal Haasan also admitted that he too needs to make some arrangements..

Whatever be this project, we are waiting with bated breath.
