KAHER hosts seminar on anti-microbial resistance

KLE Society's Dr. Prabhakar Kore Basic Science Research Centre organised a National Seminar on “Defying the Unseen Foe: Understanding Anti-microbial Resistance” in Belagavi. President, Infection Control Academy, Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy Burri, Scientist-D, National Institute for Research in Tuberculosis, Chennai, Siva Kumar Shanmugam, Principal, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, N.S. Mahantashetti, Medical Director of KLE Society Hospital Colonel Dayananda M., and In-Charge Director of the centre Ramesh Paranjape discussed AMR challenges and opportunities. Co-ordinator Madhavi Patil provided details of the seminar. About 50 delegates attended.
KLE Society Dr. Prabhakar Kore Basic Science Research Centre organised a National Seminar on “Defying the Unseen Foe: Understanding Anti-microbial Resistance” at the KLE Academy of Higher Education and Research (KAHER) in Belagavi on Tuesday.
President, Infection Control Academy, Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy Burri delivered the keynote address with focus on “Current Scenario of Anti-microbial Resistance (AMR)” shedding light on the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in tackling AMR.
Scientist-D, National Institute for Research in Tuberculosis (NIRT), Chennai, Siva Kumar Shanmugam delivered an informative guest lecture on “Drug Resistance and WGS in Tuberculosis”.
Principal, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, N.S. Mahantashetti, who inaugurated the event, highlighted the importance of steps needed to reduce the occurrence of AMR in hospital settings.
Medical Director of KLE Society Hospital Colonel Dayananda M. emphasized the importance of microbiological investigation and surveillance for control of AMR.
In-Charge Director of the centre Ramesh Paranjape spoke about the activities of the centre.
Co-ordinator of the workshop Madhavi Patil provided details of the seminar.

NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal faced opposition from Maratha community during his tour of villages affected by unseasonal rains in Nashik district. He was opposed for his stand on Maratha reservation issue. He was shown black flags and slogans were raised against him. He managed to visit few villages and had to cut short his tour due to the opposition. He assured to make efforts to get special funds approved for the farmers and urged not to bring politics in it.

Devanampiye and Piyadasi (meaning ‘Devanampriya’ and ‘Priyadarshi’ in Sanskrit and ‘beloved of the gods’ and ‘one with a benevolent gaze’ in English) were the two names that were widely referred to, either separately or together, in the ancient inscriptions and Buddhist literature found across South Asia. Since nobody could authentically ascertain the identity of the person, different historians came up with different opinions.
