BJP MP Maneka Gandhi alleges ISKCON is "biggest cheat" selling cows from gaushalas to butchers; ISKCON refutes, claims it runs 60 goshalas protecting hundreds of cows & bulls, many rescued from slaughter. Gandhi visited Anantapur Gaushala, found no cows in good condition, no calves.
A video of BJP MP Maneka Gandhi has gone viral in which she could be heard charging that the ISKCON is the "biggest cheat in the country which sells cows from its gaushalas (cowsheds) to butchers".
The allegation has been strongly refuted by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) which called it "unsubstantiated and false".
PTI tried to reach out to Ms. Gandhi for her comments but no response was received.
In the undated video, Ms. Gandhi said "ISKCON establishes gaushalas and earns unlimited benefits for the same from the government, in the form of huge lands."
"ISKCON is selling all its cows to the butchers and no one else does this more than them. They are the ones who roam on the road chanting 'Hare Rama Hare Krishna' and say their entire life is dependent on milk," Ms. Gandhi, an animal rights activist, said in the purported video.
"I recently visited their Anantapur Gaushala [in Andhra Pradesh] and did not find even a single cow in good condition there...There were no calves in the gaushala, which means all of them were sold off," Ms. Gandhi alleged.
ISKCON, in response, said it has pioneered cow protection in many parts of the world where beef is a staple diet.
“We are judges and therefore, cannot act like Mughals of a bygone era ... the writ courts in the guise of doing justice cannot transcend the barriers of law,” the High Court of Karnataka observed while setting aside an order of a single judge, who in 2016 had extended the lease of a public premises allotted to a physically challenged person to 20 years contrary to 12-year period stipulated in the law.
The High Court of Karnataka on Monday declined to interfere, at present, in the investigation against a Bharatiya Janata Party worker, who is among the accused persons facing charges of circulating obscene clips, related to “morphed” images and videos clips related to Prajwal Revanna, former Hassan MP, in public domain through pen drives and other modes.
