Iranian journalist Masih Alinejad urged people around the world to protest against Taliban’s order for women in Afghanistan to “wear head-to-toe clothing.” Aliinejad retweeted the video from January 18 after the decree was passed by Afghanistan’s Taliban rulers on Saturday.

Iranian journalist and activist Masih Alinejad retweeted a video on Twitter on May 8 wherein she urged people around the world to protest against Taliban’s order for women in Afghanistan to “wear head-to-toe clothing.” Alinejad, who has been peacefully protesting against Iran’s compulsory public hijab law for women and girls, retweeted the video from January 18 after the decree was passed by Afghanistan’s Taliban rulers on Saturday.

She appealed to all women to protest against the compulsory hijab law. Her appeal has received a resounding response online. Alinejad, who argues wearing a hijab should be a personal choice, talked about what the Taliban and ISIS expect of a woman staying in Afghanistan and how laxity in observing the strict rules could even result in serious penalties. “I am a woman from the Middle East and I am scared of Islamic laws,” Alinejad said in the video. Through her video, Alinejad wanted to start a dialogue on social media.

“In Iran, I was told if I take off my hijab, I will be hanged with my hair by god. I will get kicked out of school, I will get lashes, I will get jailed, and I will get fined. I will even get beaten up on the streets by the morality police. If I get raped, it's my fault. If I take off my hijab, I won't be able to exist as a woman in my homeland,” she said in the video.

“...my fear and the fear of millions of other women who lived under Sharia Law in the Middle East is rational. So, Let Us Talk,” saying this, Alinejad ended the video.

“We call on all women around the world, especially those feminists and politicians who celebrated World Hijab Day to join our campaign and show your support & protest against the Taliban’s order for women of Afghanistan to wear head-to-toe clothing. #LetUsTalk (sic),” her tweet reads.
