Iran regime not cracking, protesters will be slaughtered, Israel tells US: Report

Israel urges Iranians to rise even as it privately fears a bloodbath. A leaked US cable reveals stark warnings, shifting US stance, and the risks facing protesters as the war enters a dangerous new phase.
A stark warning from Israel’s top officials has exposed a grim paradox at the heart of the ongoing conflict with Iran. Even as it urges Iranians to rise up, it believes those who do may be “slaughtered”.
In a confidential assessment shared with the United States, Israeli officials have said Iran’s regime is “not cracking” and remains prepared to “fight to the end”, despite sustained military pressure, the Washington Post reported.
According to a US State Department cable, Israeli officials told American counterparts that any large-scale uprising in Iran would likely be crushed with overwhelming force. The message was blunt - if Iranians take to the streets in large numbers, “the people will get slaughtered”.
The cable, circulated by the US Embassy in Jerusalem, relayed that Israel sees little immediate sign of internal collapse within Iran’s leadership.
At the centre of this assessment is the strength of Iran’s internal security machinery. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, backed by forces such as the Basij, is seen as firmly in control.
The regime has already shown its willingness to use force. Thousands were killed during widespread anti-government protests earlier this year, triggered by economic distress and political repression.

After Pakistan signed the Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement with Saudi Arabia, it was obligated to help Riyadh amid Iranian drone and missile strikes in the Middle East. When Saudi Arabia needed military help and assurances, Pakistan carried out intensive bombing in Afghanistan to signal that it was already caught up in a war.

The US shared a video of strikes on Iran, with US Central Command saying its forces continue to "hunt and destroy" threats, as the conflict with Iran enters its third week. The escalation comes alongside Israeli claims of targeting top Iranian figures and Tehran's call for global condemnation of the US-Israeli attacks.

The UAE has faced the most intense barrage of Iranian attacks among the Gulf countries since the US-Israel war on Tehran began. Civilian and business infrastructure in Dubai and other hubs have been targeted. But why has the UAE been targeted more than its Gulf neighbours? Here's what's driving Iran's aggression against it.

Israel shared a photo of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordering strikes on Iran's leadership, even as authorities pushed back against viral but unverified claims about his death. The post comes amid escalating hostilities with Iran and a parallel information war marked by misinformation and official rebuttals.

Over the past week, social media has been abuzz with rumours claiming that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was killed in an Iranian missile strike. However, there remains no credible evidence. It coincided with his reported absence from cabinet meetings. However, Israel has released videos and images to assert that Netanyahu is alive.
