
IMD predicts heavy rainfall in Maharashtra, Andhra, Sikkim; red alert issued in parts of Uttarakhand

According to the Indian Meteorological Department, heavy rainfall is expected in Maharahstra, Andhra, Sikkim and Gujarat. A red alert has been issued in parts of Uttarakhand.
The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in isolated areas of Garhwal and Kumaon regions of Uttarakhand.
According to the weather department, a few places in Uttarakhand’s Kuamaun and adjoining districts of Garhwal region are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall today (September 14). Thunderstorms are likely to occur in isolated places in districts of Uttarakhand.
Due to incessant rain in parts of Maharashtra, Mumbai is facing waterlogging issues in the Sion area of the city. The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, Thane and Sindhudurg.

According to the weather bulletin of the Indian Meteorological Department, West Bengal, Odisha, Bihar, Sikkim, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Goa are expected to receive moderate to heavy rainfall in the next few days.

The matter pertains to a petition filed by one Nikhil Kumar Punia, who was born into an upper-caste Hindu family but supposedly converted to Buddhism later. He, along with another General Category candidate, has sought minority reservation benefits for admission to a Buddhist medical college on grounds of their purported conversion.
