India Today
The Gujarat government has exempted lecturers and professors in state-funded institutions from clearing the CCC+ and regional language exams for promotion.
Lecturers and professors at Gujarat's state-run and grant-in-aid colleges and universities do not need to clear Course on Computer Concepts (CCC+) in addition to the exams in Gujarati or Hindi language to be promoted, as told by the state government on Wednesday. State Education Minister Jitu Vaghani informed that this decision is going to benefit approximately 3,500 college and university teachers.
The concerned CCC+ course is a certificate-level course that provides basic computer literacy to the government workforce.
A Government Resolution(GR) issued by the Gujarat government in February 2019, stated that lecturers and professors will have to clear CCC+ in addition to Hindi or Gujarati language exams for promotion and higher pay as per the Career Advancement Scheme (CAS) under the 7th Pay Commission pay scales in effect in Gujarat.
Gujarat Education Minister Jitu Vaghani said that the state government has taken the decision to remove these conditions from the GR in addition to restarting the process of granting promotion.
He added that various lecturers and professors were waiting for their promotion from the last six years.
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has taken the decision in consideration of representations made by several teachers’ unions from colleges and universities.
The exemption, however, only applies to individuals who are eligible for a CAS advancement on or before December 2022.
