From 84 kg to 68 kg, Vineet Kumar Singh reveals why he was asked to lose weight for Siya | Exclusive

Vineet Kumar Singh had to lose weight for his character in Siya. Here's why.

Filmmaker Manish Mundra's first directorial venture, Siya, opened to positive response from the critics and the audience. The film features Vineet Kumar Singh and Pooja Pandey in the key roles. The film sheds light on the story of Siya Singh, a 17-year-old rape survivor, who ultimately falls prey to the flawed justice system. In the film, Vineet plays a lawyer, Mahender, who seeks justice for Siya, played by Pooja. Speaking exclusively to IndiaToday.in, Singh said there's a need for more men like his character Mahender in this society.

Vineet Kumar Singh revealed how his character in Siya is different from the one he played Mukkabaaz. "In Mukkabaaz, my character takes a stand and bhid [grapples] jaata hain. This character is not like that. Ye character [Mahender] bhid [grapples] toh jaata hain, but not physically. His inner strength is his real strength. And he knows that he is standing against a Baahubali and anything could happen. But still, he stands tall. And that's the thing I find beautiful about this character, that the person whom he takes a stand for, vo uss parivaar ka nahi hai. Without any financial or social gain, he takes a stand on human ground. That's the one thing I liked about Mahender. And I feel aajke samaj mein, Mahender jaise logo ki bohot zarurat hain," said Vineet.

Continuing his chat further with IndiaToday.in, Vineet said he had to lose nearly 16 kg for Manish Mundra's Siya. Revealing the reason he shed weight for the film, Vineet said, "When I said yes to the film, I was preparing for another thing. I was prepping for something related to the action genre. I needed some time to prepare for it. At that time, I was around 83-84 kg. When I read the script and met Manish sir, his first reaction was 'He looks physically strong. And the character of Mahender isn't physically strong like him'. So, I had no option but to lose weight. When I shot this film, I was around 67-68 kg. From 83-84 kg, main khich ke laaya yaha tak."

Siya was released on September 16, 2022 in cinemas.
