Fans of Friends in China were in for a disappointment when they found that almost six minutes of the reunion special episode was omitted. Friends: The Reunion, that aired in China, didn't have Lady Gaga, BTS and Justin Beiber's appearances.
Friends: The Reunion premiered on HBO Max and Zee5 in India on May 27. The unscripted special saw Friends’ lead actors Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer reminiscing about the good old days. It was an instant hit among fans all over the world. However, the fans in China were in for a disappointment as nearly six minutes of material from the special episode was trimmed. The American sitcom enjoys a huge fan following in the country. However, censorship is not rare in China. This included the appearances of the K-pop band BTS, Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga. Their parts have been completely omitted from Friends: The Reunion. That's not all. A segment featuring few fans from the LGBTQ community talking about how special the show was to them, were edited out from the episode. According to a report in Variety, the top streaming platforms in China also omitted a blooper reel where Matt LeBlanc is seen wearing an underwear with David Schwimmer's photo taped in the front. A popular scene where Joey and Chandler recount how they peed on Monica was also cut.
