Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments P.K. Sekarbabu on Sunday said his department was planning to call for fresh applications for honorary trustee posts at 17,000 temples in the State.
Addressing the media after releasing the department’s calendar for 2025, he said trustees had been appointed to 8,400 temples after the DMK came to power. “Unfortunately, there are no takers for small temples. We will call for applications again soon. The applicants should not have any cases pending against them, or any arrears if they have taken land or other property belonging to temples on lease. Mr. Sekarbabu said district-level committees had been appointed for all 38 districts. As far as gold deposits belonging to temples were concerned, 724 kg had been given for melting, and 472 kg had been deposited with the banks, he said.

The Union and State governments provided support in several ways to the needy people, but private institutions should also extend help, especially to those requiring medical assistance, said C.P. Rajkumar, Managing Director, Nalam Multispeciality Hospital, here on Saturday. Speaking at a function to honour Inspector General of Police V. Balakrishnan and neurologist S. Meenakshisundaram with C.
