Karur District Collector M. Thangavel on Sunday unfurled the national flag at a simple function held on the occasion of the Republic Day at the sports ground in the city.
Travelling in a decorated vehicle, accompanied by Superintendent of Police K. Ferozkhan Abdulla, Mr. Thangavel inspected the guard of honour by the Armed Reserve police, National Cadets Corps, volunteers of National Service Schemes and others.
The Collector met the heirs of freedom fighters and presented shawls to them as a token of their services to the nation during the freedom struggle. He distributed Chief Minister’s medals to 32 police personnel. He distributed meritorious certificates to 426 officers and staff members of various departments. He distributed welfare assistance to various beneficiaries.
Grama sabha meetings were held in 157 villages. Mr. Thangavel participated in the gram sabha meeting held at Kakkavadi. K. Sivagamasundari, Krishnarayapuram MLA, was present.
At a function held at the district sports stadium, Ariyalur Collector P. Rathinasamy unfurled the national flag.
Accompanied by Superintendent of Police Deepak Siwach, he accepted the guard of honour presented by the Armed Reserve police personnel. A large number of police personnel, National Cadets Corps and others took out a parade.
Mr. Rathinasamy presented Chief Minister’s medals to 29 police personnel. He gave away meritorious certificates to 202 officers and others belonging to various departments. He met the family members of freedom fighters brought from different parts of the district and felicitated them.

The draft policy for “Responsible Digital Use Among Students”, released on Monday by the Department of Health and Family Welfare, has recommended that parents set structured routines with clear screen-time rules and prioritise privacy, safety, and open conversation with children on digital well-being.
