DYK Bollywood fans in Russia once lifted Raj Kapoor, Nargis' car during Awaara premiere? Ranbir reveals

Ranbir Kapoor, at a press conference, shared a moving tale about his grandfather Raj Kapoor and Nargis during Awaara promotions. Ranbir's film Shamshera releases on July 22.

Ranbir Kapoor, Vaani Kapoor and director Karan Malhotra were in Delhi to promote their upcoming film, Shamshera. The trio spoke about films, remakes, North vs South and much more. While Bollywood films are failing to create a mark at the Indian box office of late, Hindi films are doing decently well globally, especially in Russia. Speaking of how Ranbir expects Shamshera to fare in Russia, the actor narrated a moving tale about his grandfather, Raj Kapoor and Nargis from back in time.

While Bollywood is struggling to make a mark in India, Hindi films are doing great in the Russian entertainment market. During a press conference held in Delhi, Shamshera actor Ranbir Kapoor spoke about how he expects his soon-to-release film to work in Russia. In a similar context, he narrated a moving tale of how Russian fans treated his grandfather Raj Kapoor and Nargis when they had gone to the country for the premiere of Awaara.

Ranbir said, “I have heard such wonderful stories about the kind of love the international audience gives to actors. Russia also does that. I have a very interesting story that my grandfather had told me. He and Nargis ji were in Russia for the premiere of Awara. They came out of the hall and there were a lot of Russian locals standing outside. Both of them waved at the people and sat in the cab or the car which was taking them to the hotel. Suddenly, they experienced that the car was not moving forward, it moved up. Fans carried the car on their shoulder and walked over to the hotel. I still have goosebumps when I hear about it. That kind of love and reverence they have for the movies. So it'd be great if the film releases in Russia.”

Shamshera releases on July 22. The film stars Ranbir Kapoor, Vaani Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt in lead roles. Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Shamshera is produced by Yash Raj Films. It is reportedly set in the fictitious city of Kaza, where a warrior tribe is imprisoned, enslaved and tortured by a ruthless authoritarian general Shudh Singh. In Shamshera, Ranbir Kapoor is playing a larger-than-life quintessential Hindi film hero for the first time in his career.
