Dust, bottlenecks and stench greet Srinivagilu Road commuters as white-topping works drag on

Commuters on Srinivagilu Road face dust, congestion, and unpleasant odors as delayed white-topping works create ongoing challenges.
Residents of southeast Bengaluru heading to the city centre and beyond are greeted by clouds of dust, relentless honking, and a strong stench from the waste transfer station on Srinivagilu Main Road near National Games Village (NGV), as the white-topping work continues to drag on.
Covering the 750-metre stretch of the Srinivagilu Main Road from the Regional Passport Office in Koramangala to Ejipura Main Road takes nearly five minutes during peak hours, as the stretch has over three bottlenecks. Adding to the misery, the Intermediate Ring Road (IRR), which runs parallel, is already congested at Sony Signal and the Ejipura Junction, making commuting in the area a Herculean task.
The work was commissioned last year and was scheduled to begin in August and be completed by the first week of January this year. However, work only began in December 2025, and merely 20% was completed by January. Sources said that the deadline has been pushed to mid-April. However, the onfield progress does not seem to promise timely completion.
Bottleneck with stench
On the ground, the white-topping work has been completed in one direction (towards Koramangala), although patches remain unfinished. The cobblestone walkway is still in progress. On the other side, only 10% of the stretch has been completed.
Arun K., a regular commuter to M.G. Road, said, “The road width reduces near the waste transfer station as work is under way on one part of the road. At this point, vehicle movement slows down and a congestion point is created, requiring commuters to mandatorily spend about a minute there, while the smell remains persistent.”
