Tiruchi MP Durai Vaiko has urged the railway authorities to explore the feasibility of constructing a pedestrian subway near the Tiruverumbur Railway Station
Tiruchi MP Durai Vaiko has urged the railway authorities to explore the feasibility of constructing a pedestrian subway near the Tiruverumbur Railway Station.
Mr. Durai Vaiko made the request when he visited the railway station and its adjoining areas along with local residents on Monday.
In a statement later, Mr. Durai Vaiko said that the local residents had apprised him of the difficulties faced by them in crossing the railway tracks and accidents were frequent. “Though three possible sites were inspected, officials rejected all of them citing technical reasons. However, I have requested the officials to explore the feasibility of building a subway at least on smaller scale. The officials have agreed to study the issue and get back to me,” he said.
He requested the officials to widen and repair the road between the Tiruverumbur Bus Stand and the Railway Station.
Following complaints that the toilets at the station remained locked, Mr. Durai Vaiko urged the station manager to keep them open at least for a couple of hours after train arrivals and departures. On being told that the toilets were kept locked as anti-socials were misusing them, Mr. Durai Vaiko suggested the installation of surveillance cameras rather than keeping them closed altogether.
Earlier, he visited the 100 Feet Road leading to the ELCOT IT Park at Navalpattu in the city. He requested the State Highways officials to widen the stretch of about one-km-long road between the 100 Feet Road and the IT Park. He urged them to carry out improvements at the 100 Feet Road Junction in view of the heavy traffic congestion there.
